Born: 1879-03-14
Died: 1955-04-18
US (German-born) physicist.
Albert Einstein was a physicist and mathematician who first proposed
the theory of relativity. He also made major contributions to the
development of quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics and cosmology,
and is generally regarded as the most important physicist of the 20th
century. He was awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics for his explanation
of the photoelectric effect "and other contributions"; however,
the announcement of the award was not made until a year later, in
1922.
